Happy 4th of July! (sorry it’s a bit late–we were in San Diego visiting family for the past week+). For those of you who have followed our blog for a period of time will recognize this family–we’ve been photographing them for 4 years now–and it never gets old! We’ve ventured from Napa to Tahoe with this family, and for their last family session decided to stay in our neck of the woods. This family session also doubled as Miss V’s last Bebe session, and she was in fine form! On a side note, in case you’re ever wondering how to do light-colored clothing well for a family session, it doesn’t get any better than this! We were a bit nervous about the 4 kids near water in their nice clothes, but somehow we all managed to keep them at bay with just throwing rocks into the water. Thanks again (and again!) to the Ferrell family for entrusting us to capture these precious moments in your family!
Meet Larisa. Elegant, enchanting, edgy and everything in between, Larisa pulled off a variety of looks effortlessly. She decided to include Marko (her horse) for her senior portraits and had a great look in mind. We discussed wardrobe at the consultation which turned out perfect. I was a little nervous how Marko would react to all the lighting equipment, but thankfully he behaved just fine. Thank you Larisa (and Renee) for such a special session. Here are some faves.

Meet Reilly – Class of 2012. With such a diverse wardrobe, we decided to spend some time in the studio and then head to Old Sacramento for Reilly’s senior session. With that look in mind, she and her mom (Dina) went shopping and found this lovely dress…perfect for this session. Reilly attracted lots of attention but danced around in it like no one was there at all. We had loads of fun and lost track of time (as usual) as we walked around the back alleys of Old Sac. Thank you Reilly and Dina for such a memorable session! Some faves.
Photographing the Granner family was several years in the making, so we were thrilled when it finally came to fruition! Jami called me a few years ago when she was expecting little Miss K, inquiring about maternity portraits. Unfortunately those didn’t end up happening, as complications forced her to bed rest. Fast forward a couple of years, and I was so excited when we heard from her to bring her kiddos to our Heirlooms & Expressions summer portrait event last year. It’s always interesting to watch the interaction between older kids and little ones, and this was such a treat, as big brother and big sister doted on little K, as she clearly had them wrapped around their little finger! 🙂 Jami then decided to bring the whole gang back for a complete family session, where the loving nature of this family came through even more. It’s definitely a testament to great parents when you see great teenagers. Thanks for sharing them with us! (and of course, little Miss K, too…she’s a show-stealer!).

This amazing structure was built in 1890 and is rich with history, both natural and paranormal… For many years the castle sat abandoned with portions exposed to the elements, and the years of neglect contributed to its current state of “beautiful decay”. It is a hauntingly gorgeous place for photographs and we are looking for seniors eager to make their portrait session something incredibly unique.
Wardrobe is important for castle sessions, the more romantic/cinematic the better. This is not a place for t-shirts and jeans…you are limited only by your imagination! Only two sessions are available for this unique opportunity, please inquire soon.
Meet Riley – class of 2012. When she described her style as romantic, I knew this would be a great session. Riley also spends quite a bit of time behind the camera so it was no surprise she was wonderful in front of it. Hair, makeup & wardrobe and she just disappeared into each role as if acting scenes from a film. Thanks for such a lovely experience and thanks for braving the chilly creek! Some faves.
It’s that time again! We’re thrilled to announce our 4th annual Mommy & Me Portraits for the Cure event. This is an opportunity for all the moms out there who are often behind the camera to finally get a great portrait of themselves with their kids, all while donating to a wonderful cause. We will be photographing on the background shown here, so please plan clothing accordingly (the background is lighter with pale pinks and greens). Our biggest rule of thumb when it comes to clothing choices is to make sure you aren’t mixing lights and darks too much. We will have prints ready in time for Father’s Day–hint, hint! Where to start with the Thumser family?? 🙂 We first met little miss K when she was only a few months old at our Vintage Valentine event last year. We were so thrilled when the family decided to come back for family portraits some months after that. So no beating around the bush here–Miss K’s wardrobe and accessories were amazing! When mom showed up and started pulling out things covered in tulle, lace, and feathers, our hearts skipped a beat. The best part was that she left her headpieces on long enough to get the shot! Such a happy little girl-clearly a reflection of her happy, adoring mom and dad. We had the best time with the Thumser family and can’t wait to see what fashion trends little K starts in the future!
